Rideshares like Uber and Lyft are Unreliable with Reservations

Rideshares like Uber and Lyft’s reservation system are unreliable for business travelers.

On demand transportation apps do offer within their apps to schedule a car service to JFK or car service point to point. The only question is how reliable are these reservations? How much of control does Uber have in scheduling shifts for their drivers? Considering these drivers are subcontracted labor, Uber and Lyft cannot impose a time schedule.

The subcontracted network of drivers choosing to work their own desirable hours can be problematic when you are traveling and the car service suppliers are in bed, on vacation, or simply feel that with traffic conditions it may not be worth their time to haul Uber fares. These apps cannot dictate dispatch to their driver’s daily ride schedule. So how reliable are the rideshare apps on reservations?

What good is a reservation, when the time of service there isn’t a car available or one nearby area? Or what about an auto dispatch system that has no control in directing nearby cars to reservation rides? On demand dispatch is just simply connecting to a nearby car who’s willing to accept the ride.  Even after accepting, these drivers have the power and authority to cancel the ride if the ride is not compatible with the drivers’ expectations.

However, the problem is that the rest of world still functions on reservations and appointments. One cannot simply show up at the airport and dictate an airline ticket at their own time schedule. Has a doctor ever said, “come by whenever you feel like?” Have you ever been to a restaurant and told that they have no seating? This is why all of us make reservations and business travelers also require the ability to make reservations with car services for future use. A business traveler departing at JFK International Airport at 5pm needs to reserve a car pickup for 2:30pm. While some on demand transportation apps may tell you that they are more reliable than other apps, have they told you about their price gouging tactics?

Yes, the popular term Dynamic Pricing or Surge Pricing is nothing more than Price Gouging. The truth is barely told, except the rider is always told that surge pricing is required to get more cars on the road. The truth is this, “we had to raise prices to get the driver owned vehicle interested in picking you up on the given time”.

For these and many more reasons, if a serious traveler requires serious attention with timing and reservations, the conventional executive car service to JFK or car service from JFK or a car service for hourly charter or any other point to point maybe best when using a traditional company owned fleet, with professional chauffeurs managed by an experienced dispatcher and management.
